Illustrator is the industry standard for creating vector graphics. It is often used to create illustrations, cartoons, diagrams, charts and logos. Unlike raster images (photos) that store information in a grid of dots (pixels), vector images are created by a mathematical formula. Thus, vector graphics never get “pixelated” when enlarged.

Photoshop is the industry standard for editing raster graphics. It is the most used design software in the world. It is used by photographers, graphic designers, video editors, game designers, etc. If you had to learn only own design software, this would be it. We are going to focus primarily on Photoshop more as a design tool rather than a photo editing tool.

While going through school you have taken a variety of classes in various departments (English, Science, Math, etc.). The CIA is in the CTE department. CTE stands for Career and Technical Education. The idea is that “academic” classes don’t necessarily teach the type of skills necessary for you to succeed in the real world once you finish school. Whether that is high school, community college, or university. Hopefully throughout this course you have learned some new skills, and even more importantly, some new skills that have value.

Do you need images for your projects? Do you think you can simply go to Google Images and use any image you want? Wrong! Most images found on Google Images are copyrighted. Below is a list of sources to Royalty Free Stock Images.

  4. Morguefile

The primary goal of the CIA is to get new recruits up and running as Graphic Artists. Cap wants you to be able to apply your skills to real projects. So much of school is about learning something that you can apply at some point in the distant future. Isn’t cooler to learn something and apply it … Now?
